Decision 2020, MCJ Reunion

Greetings family, hope all is well. This update is to inform you of a very important opportunity to express your opinion on whether we should have the reunion this year or whether we should postpone until next year. Last night, the MCJ 2020 KC planning committee met and decided to recommend to the family that we postpone the reunion until 2021. However, we all felt that it was important that the entire family be given an opportunity to have their voices be heard on this issue.
I'm sure most are familiar with the teleconferencing app called Zoom. This technology allows video and audio conferencing from remote locations around the country (and the world) as long as you have internet access and either a smart phone, tablet, laptop or desktop computer equipped with a camera. We are setting up the Zoom meeting for next Tuesday May 5th at 7:00 p.m. central time. The link at the bottom of this message will allow users to join the meeting. Additionally, I will send a reminder of the meeting on this coming Monday.
As I mentioned, the MCJ 2020 KC planning committee will make a recommendation that we postpone the reunion until next year. That recommendation is based on several critical concerns that led us to this conclusion. Here are the major concerns that we have:
1) The coronavirus is especially dangerous to elderly people and the last thing we would want to do is anything that would endanger the health and well being of our seniors.
2). Social distancing will be with us for some time and if we went forward with the reunion in September we would need protocols in place for spacing, wearing masks, food service, and a number of other changes that we are not excited about at all.
3). Even if we push ahead and do the reunion in spite of every difficulty we face, a significant number of people just will not attend for various reasons including fear of travel, economic hardship, etc.
