MCJ Family Member Transitions

Hello MCJ family, hope you and family are well and enjoying your holiday. We have some sad news to share. Melvin Stokes, long time husband of Lettie Stokes has died at the age of 91. Melvin passed peacefully at his home in New Orleans with his loving daughter Dee Dee and her husband Larry nearby. Melvin was a faithful attendee at all MCJ reunions prior to his latter years where traveling became more difficult.

Melvin and Lettie infused our MCJ reunions with a New Orleans flair that began in 1982, the very first year after I moved to New Orleans and repeated in 1992, 1999, and 2018. Reunion attendees were graciously hosted with gumbo, ettouffee, stuffed crab, you name it in Melvin & Lettie's home in Algiers, on the west bank of the Mississippi river in New Orleans. Talk about excitement! Everyone was clamoring for some of that southern hospitality and Melvin and Lettie happily obliged. Melvin loved putting together puzzles in his spare time and leaned toward healthy eating and juicing in later years. Melvin had a very gentle spirit will be missed greatly. Arrangements are pending and we'll share when we have more news.

This holiday season, cling tightly to loved ones and cherish the happy moments. Best to all in 2025!
