Hello family, hope all is well. I apologize for the lateness of this notification due to travel and a very hectic pace lately. A beloved family member, James Owens passed on June 4, 2022. James was the devoted husband of Dorothy Owens of suburban Chicago and succumbed to a battle with cancer. Services were held in Chicago. James was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who worked for Allstate Insurance for over 35 years. He loved and enjoyed life and you'll recall that radiant smile from past MCJ reunions. Please keep the family in prayer and again, pardon the late notice.
For those who are attending the MCJ 2022 Family Reunion Cruise to the Bahamas, we'd like to review the latest guidance from Will & Dee Simond, our hosts for the cruise. As you are aware we passed the deadline for payment of cruise balances in June. Hopefully everyone who plan on attending the cruise is either paid in full or made other specific arrangements acceptable to Royal Caribbean.
Also, I'm sure everyone is aware of the current turmoil in the airline industry which suggests that you may want to give yourselves a cushion on arrival dates in Orlando. Will had previously recommended flying in to Orlando the day before just to be on the safe side and based on our experience traveling for vacation in June we just changed our flights to Thursday instead of Friday in order make sure we would not fall victim to a last minute airline cancellation and miss our cruise. The hotel will add an extra cost to the vacation but Will found a decent deal so the extra is worth the peace of mind. See below from Will.
As we recommend when you cruise you should always go a day early because I myself do not trust the airlines. I am going to use a service called Go Port. I have checked their options and for 2 people you can stay at the Double Tree in Orlando and get transportation from the airport to the hotel and on friday transportation from the hotel to Port Canaveral and when we return transportation from the port to the airport. For those who did not know Port Canaveral is about 45 minutes to an hour from Orlando. The price for all of this is $279 and for 4 people $316. This is the service that I will be using and I recommend that you should too. the website is goport.com and it is the Fly Snooze Cruise Package. Any question call, text, or email me. Vaccination and Testing Requirements Vaccination All guests 12 and older must be fully vaccinated at least 14 days before sailing. Children aged 5 to 11 are not required to be vaccinated. However, as they are eligible for vaccination, we recommend they receive their vaccine before sailing. Children with one dose of a two-dose vaccine do not count as fully vaccinated for the purpose of our sailing. Click here to learn more. Testing Pre-Cruise: All guests 2 years and older must present a negative COVID-19 test result.
Vaccinated guests: PCR or antigen test must be taken no more than 2 days prior to sailing.
Unvaccinated children ages 2 to 11: PCR test must be taken no more than 3 days prior to sailing — but not on boarding day. Antigen tests are not accepted for unvaccinated guests.
No testing required for guests under age 2.
Pre-cruise testing costs and scheduling are the guest's responsibility.
Certificate of Recovery: Instead of a negative pre-cruise test, a Certificate of Recovery and a positive PCR test taken between 11-90 days prior to our sail date can be provided to sail with us. To learn more, check out our dedicated FAQ here. Please note: we will not accept a Certificate of Recovery in the place of a vaccination record. Additionally, some ports of call do not accept Certificates of Recovery for the purposes of debarking and enjoying the destination.
Embarkation Day: Unvaccinated guests ages 2 to 11 will take a complimentary antigen test for COVID-19 during check-in. Registration details will be sent via email in advance.
Onboard: For sailings that are 5 nights or longer, unvaccinated guests ages 2 to 11 will take a complimentary antigen test prior to debark. Sailings longer than 10 nights may have additional onboard testing requirements. Registration details will be provided onboard.
That's all for now family. Be safe and we'll check in with you a bit later with more info on the cruise.
Much Love,
MCJ Reunion Planning Committee
