MCJ Icon Fannie M. Metcalf Passes

It is with sadness that we report on the passing of Fannie M. Metcalf at the age of 91. While the passing of a loved one is always hard, it is encouraging to know that Ms. Fannie was in the words of close family members, "ready". Her passing came on Sept. 8, 2023 and she had been on comfort care since right after the MCJ 2023 reunion.

The matriarch of a large and loving Metcalf branch of MCJ, Ms. Fannie was said to display her impressive wit and humor mere hours before her passing. At a gathering of family in her hospital room when presented with cards and well wishes, she shook the cards and smilingly said, where's the money?

I've not given it a lot of thought, but I think when my time comes I would want to be at peace with God, family and friends. I'd want somewhat of a legacy that is secure, something to be known for, remembered by. Well, Ms. Fannie had all that and more. Her family had created a foundation many years ago that bore her name which gave educational scholarships to deserving students. She was able to witness and be extraordinarily proud of the accomplishments of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
